African Plains game

For decades, South Africa has reigned supreme as the world's premier hunting destination, particularly ideal for first-time hunters, especially those pursuing plains game. Most hunting occurs on private game farms, surpassing public land in game abundance.

The Limpopo and Eastern Cape provinces host over half of the popular plains game species, with a staggering selection of over 30 antelope species available for hunting. Some game farms even provide opportunities to hunt non-indigenous exotic species not native to Africa.

Scattered across the country, South African hunting areas are accessible, often by car, though air charters become practical for more distant locations from Johannesburg. Plains game hunting is predominantly on foot, with safari trucks transporting from lodges to hunting grounds amidst grassy plains, thorn bushes, and acacia-filled habitats. Sturdy, well-worn boots are a necessity, acknowledging that your Professional Hunter (PH) has traversed these hills for a lifetime.

Year-round hunting is possible, with June through August being the most favored months, requiring layered warm clothing due to the chilly winter climate. The diversity of South Africa's plains game includes impala, warthog, Greater kudu, springbok, blesbok, gemsbok, and blue wildebeest, ensuring a tailored safari experience for everyone.
